February 2025 Update

February 2, 2025

Dear Members and Supporters,

On behalf of the Art Gallery of Northumberland (AGN), I am pleased to highlight our recent developments and achievements.

First and foremost, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Town of Cobourg for their ongoing commitment to the arts through core operations funding. This essential support enables us to maintain our operations, enhance our programming, and continue serving as a vital cultural hub for our community. Additionally, we are pleased to announce a new service agreement with the Town of Cobourg and funding from Northumberland County. The service agreement with the Town of Cobourg will allow us to expand our programs and introduce new initiatives, while the funding from Northumberland County will further enrich the cultural landscape of our region. The investment in the arts is an investment in community engagement, education, and economic growth, and we are deeply appreciative of this support.

A special thank you to Mayor Lucas Cleveland, members of Cobourg Council, and our dedicated council representative on the AGN Board, Aaron Burchat. Your continued advocacy and belief in the power of the arts make our work possible. We are grateful to be supported by leaders who recognize the importance of cultural institutions in shaping vibrant and dynamic communities.

At the AGN, our Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers are working diligently to bring arts and culture to the people of Cobourg, Northumberland County, and beyond. Through exhibitions, educational programs, and community outreach, we strive to inspire creativity, foster inclusivity, and celebrate artistic excellence.

As we look ahead, we remain committed to our mission and vision, ensuring that the AGN continues to be a place of connection, inspiration, and artistic exploration for all. Thank you for your unwavering support of the arts and for being a part of our journey.

2025 is off to a fantastic start at the AGN, with exciting exhibitions, programs, and community engagement setting the tone for a vibrant year ahead. January’s strong attendance highlights the community’s enthusiasm for the arts, and we look forward to continuing to inspire and connect with our visitors.

The AGN’s Valentine program features Crimes of Passion and Killer Art, a captivating talk by artist and curator Olexander Wlasenko on Thursday, 13 February at 7:00 p.m. exploring the intersection of love, obsession, and crime in visual culture. This engaging presentation will delve into how artists have depicted passion-fueled transgressions, offering a thought-provoking look at art’s darker romantic themes —just in time for Valentine’s Day!

On February 17, join us for a special Family Day celebration from 1:00 -3:00 p.m. Enjoy hands-on artmaking, interactive stations, and storytelling for all ages. It’s the perfect opportunity to explore, create, and connect—mark your calendars for a fun-filled afternoon at the gallery!

Best,
Olinda Casimiro | Executive Director
