Inspired by the landscapes of eastern Ontario and the traces of its earlier agricultural settlement, Felicity Somerset and Peter Large have created a collection of drawings and photographs.
In the late 18th century, the Empire Loyalists moved into this area and established themselves. The remnants of their settlement and that of their descendants is the subject of this work.
The drawings and photographs of old barns, houses, split fences, a blacksmith’s forge and farming equipment record a way of life that continues to evolve and change as the area becomes more populated and less agricultural. Many of the buildings and structures are decaying rapidly and will soon be no more.
