Visit the Cobourg Community Centre to view the now complete Loom in the Lobby!
We are pleased to announce that our Loom in the Lobby community art project is now complete! You can view the colourful and community collaborative art project at the Cobourg Community Centre.
“On behalf of the Art Gallery of Northumberland we would like to extend our gratitude towards the 180 participants and to tapestry and textile artist Ixchel Suarez for the hardwork and dedication that went into this community art project,” said Olinda Casimiro, Executive Director for the Art Gallery of Northumberland. “It’s projects like these that help embed culture into our wonderful community and we strive to continue such projects.”
Over six months the Loom in the Lobby had 180 participants from ages 4 1/2 to 86 participate in weaving the loom at the Cobourg Community Centre. Ixchel Suarez, Resident Artist and Project Coordinator was on site twice a week to engage those who have never tried their hand at weaving.
“Sometimes it was a matter of curiosity, sometimes the will of learning something different, and sometimes the fact that was an activity that could be shared together grandparents, siblings, parents, all together,” replied Ixchel Suarez, Resident Artist and Project Coordinator.
